At Phoenix Society for Burn Survivors, we are committed to supporting the professionals who care for burn survivors just as much as the survivors themselves. That's why we are proud to announce a new partnership with the Board of Certification for Emergency Nursing (BCEN®), the only organization offering a board certification program exclusively for burn nurses.
As the benchmark for certification across the emergency nursing spectrum, BCEN is at the forefront of advancing the knowledge and expertise of the nurses who hold our board certifications, including burn nurses who have earned the Certified Burn Registered Nurse (CBRN) credential. Research shows that board certification promotes consumer confidence and contributes to better patient care, better patient outcomes, and higher patient satisfaction.
Launched globally in fall 2023, BCEN's CBRN program validates advanced knowledge and expertise across the burn care continuum, including pre-hospital and acute management, critical care, rehabilitation and reintegration, patient and family support, and injury prevention and education. This nationally accredited, Magnet-accepted certification ensures that burn survivors receive care from nurses who are prepared to deliver the highest standard of care at every stage of recovery.
BCEN's mission supports Phoenix Society's commitment to ensuring that every survivor receives compassionate, expert care that supports both physical recovery and emotional healing. Through this partnership, Phoenix Society and BCEN will connect burn clinicians, survivors, and families with education, resources, and recognition opportunities — strengthening the circle of support across the burn community.
Because expertise in burn care is essential to achieving the best outcomes for burn patients, and because nurses play a central role in delivering and coordinating patient care and supporting patients and families at every stage, this partnership will support burn nurses in growing their specialty practice at the cutting edge of burn care.

In addition to certification, BCEN offers continuing education resources through BCEN Learn, free webinars, and the annual BCEN Learn Live conference, where clinicians and survivors can share burn care advances and lived experiences. BCEN also celebrates excellence in burn nursing through its Distinguished CBRN Award and National Certification Champion Award, highlighting individuals and institutions making an impact in burn care. BCEN also gives back to the survivor community directly, such as volunteering at the Illinois Fire Safety Alliance Camp I Am Me, where the BCEN team served in summer 2025.

Together, Phoenix Society and BCEN are building a stronger network of care for every burn survivor.
