A Statement From Amy Acton

Written by Amy Acton, RN, BSN on June 03, 2020

Our mission is building a community for transformational healing.

Phoenix Society is committed to creating a space where every person is supported, every story is valued, and hate is not tolerated. That’s why we stand with people of color in opposition to violence and oppression.

We know grief and trauma can have a devastating impact, and many of you are hurting deeply. To the black burn community—we are here. We are listening. We support you, and we will take your lead.

As an organization, we are actively examining how we can be more responsive to the needs of our diverse community. That includes making space for new perspectives and amplifying the voices of people of color and other marginalized survivors. With your help, we hope to identify growth opportunities and take concrete steps to make our programs and resources even more inclusive.

Since 1977, Phoenix Society has been learning and evolving to better fulfill our mission. The powerful voices of our community have inspired and guided us for the past 40 years.

We will continue to listen, reflect, and grow. We are committed to doing our part to create a world where transformational healing is a reality for all.

We know nothing is more powerful than a united voice. Today, we must unite our voices for equality and justice.

In solidarity,

Amy Acton
