I have never attended Phoenix World Burn Congress before.  Do you have any helpful suggestions on how to maneuver through my first time?

This handout has a wealth of information for those who are first time attendees. Please read it thoroughly and if you have any other questions, do not hesitate to call us at 800-888-2876.

 

When is Phoenix World Burn Congress 2018?

Phoenix WBC is September 12-15, 2018, in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

 

How do you make hotel reservations and what is the fee?

Our room block is at the Amway Grand Plaza. We have negotiated a rate of $172 per night plus tax. This rate includes complimentary wireless internet in your room as well as pool and fitness center access. Although you may be solicited by other hotels, transportation and other services for Phoenix World Burn Congress are only provided via the Amway Grand Plaza.

What is the registration fee and what does it include?

For general conference attendance: Registration is $285 on or before August 15, 2018.  Registration will be $385 after August 15, 2018.  The registration fee includes: two breakfasts, one lunch, and the Saturday evening Buffet.

For those that wish to obtain Nursing Contact Hours: Registration will be $385. It will increase to $485 after August 15, 2018.

Unable to attend the conference in person?? New this year, be a part of the PWBC Virtual Experience! You can live stream the conference to your home computer, smartphone, or tablet. Registration to attend the virtual experience is $75 per day. This special, introductory offer will include the recordings of the sessions on the days that you do not attend “live.”

How much does it cost to park at the hotel?

We have secured a discounted parking rate for guests that are staying at the Amway Grand of $15 per day for valet or self-parking. To get this rate, you must be a guest of the Amway Grand and book your room under the Phoenix WBC Room Block.

 

Is there available parking in downtown Grand Rapids?

There are many parking options available in the City of Grand Rapids. Please refer to the city's map for parking locations and rates or contact The City of Grand Rapids Parking Services at 616-456-3290. Is there transportation between the hotel and airport?

Transportation will be provided from Gerald R. Ford International Airport in Grand Rapids (airport code: GRR) to the Amway Grand Plaza Hotel on Wednesday, September 12th from 9 am to 9 pm. Please note that transportation will NOT be provided on Tuesday, September 11th.

On Sunday, after Phoenix World Burn Congress has concluded, transportation will be provided from the Amway Grand Plaza back to the Gerald R. Ford International Airport.

What are the Pre-Congress Workshops this year?

There will be several Pre-Congress Workshops to choose from this year for an additional $35 fee. Learn about:

Phoenix World Burn Congress is also offering family-focused workshops, free of charge and open to all conference attendees. These workshops have been designed to meet the specific needs of parents and families navigating through the journey of burn recovery.  Read more details about each one.

Are you having any special sessions this year?

Phoenix World Burn Congress boasts many breakout topics catering to attendees from all areas of the burn community.  Topics range from advances in burn care, PTSD, pain management, romantic relationships, and navigating the laws & legal system. What will the Phoenix UBelong Youth and Family Program cover?

Phoenix Society is excited to offer Phoenix UBelong Youth and Teen -- Families, young adults, teens, and kids together in Burn Recovery.  Registration is on a first come, first serve basis and is open to burn survivors, siblings, and children of adult survivors, ages 7-17 years old and young adults ages 18-25 years old.  Read more about Phoenix UBelong. It is a one-of-a-kind program designed to positively inspire and support children and teens.

 

What if I need funding help to get to Phoenix World Burn Congress?

There are many ways to get assistance to attend Phoenix World Burn Congress 2018! Consider reaching out to your local burn center, foundation, or local fire service. Many of these organizations help burn survivors and their family members attend. The Phoenix World Burn Congress George Pessotti Scholarship applications are due to June 1, 2018.  Contact the Phoenix Society our call us at 800-888-2876 for other ideas and suggestions.

 

What do I need to pack?  Is there a dress code?

There is no special dress code for Phoenix World Burn Congress. Bring clothing that you are comfortable wearing and weather appropriate. We highly suggest checking the local weather a few days before arrival to help guide you with what to pack. We do recommend bringing a sweater/light jacket for indoors as some rooms will be cooler than others depending on the air conditioning controls.

Saturday evening's Closing Banquet does not have a dress code. Some attendees take the opportunity to dress up and others come in casual attire to the banquet.  It is really about what makes you the most comfortable!

 

What is the weather going to be like in Grand Rapids?

How do I volunteer for Phoenix World Burn Congress?

How do I rent medical equipment?

How do I rent motorized scooters & motorized wheelchairs?

If you are in need of renting motorized scooters and wheelchairs while in town, please contact Amigo Mobility Center. Visit the website www.amigomobilitycenter.com or call 616-361-7559 or 866-361-7559. There is a $45 delivery charge to the Amway Grand, which includes drop-off and pick-up. Motorized scooters are $35/day and manual wheelchairs are $20/day. Please contact them before August 31st to secure your equipment.
