Phoenix for Life? Many Say Yes!
Interview with Teresa Reid, Associate Director of Philanthropy
Why should someone consider a legacy gift to Phoenix Society?
If there is one thing we know, it’s this: People who understand and experience the amazing power of the Phoenix Society mission want to support it for a lifetime. They see the programs. They experience the connection. They learn how to recover. Phoenix Society helps people transform their lives and get back to living after a burn injury. No other organization does what we do.
In fact, the commitment is so strong, many in our community want to ensure that Phoenix programs and services are available for generations to come.
How can a legacy gift benefit the Phoenix Society?
When you include a gift to the Phoenix Society in your estate plans, you create a legacy of caring and philanthropy that will help further our mission and help secure it for the future.
Among other priorities, your gift will sustain our peer support programs, support special programming for kids and teens, advance and scale Phoenix World Burn Congress globally, help innovate new programs, and provide access to Phoenix Society support to the estimated 11 million people around the globe who experience burn injuries annually.
We invite you to join the growing number of lifetime supporters who have named the Phoenix Society in their will, trust, retirement plan, life insurance policy, or financial accounts. A bequest of any size will qualify you to join this exceptional group.
How does the donor benefit from a legacy gift?
We hear from many in our community who wish they could do more. A legacy gift is a wonderful opportunity to support Phoenix Society in a meaningful way without giving a large outright gift. Many people may not have the capacity to give a lot in their lifetime, but they want to leave a legacy that will benefit their family and make a lasting impact on the world.
A legacy gift is a way to maximize benefits for both the charity and the donor, often achieving significant tax savings, especially on appreciated assets. With a good plan, donors can rest easy knowing that their family will be cared for and their assets will pass on to their intended beneficiaries.
How does someone start the process?
Whether you are thinking about this now or considering it for the future, there are a few simple steps to get you started:
- Talk with your attorney – Your attorney can provide a provision in your will that directs a gift from your estate plan to Phoenix Society.
- Decide on your gift – a bequest to Phoenix Society can be a dollar amount, a specific asset, or a percentage of your estate. A bequest can also be made of the residue, or what remains after you have provided for your loved ones.
- Give us a call – We can provide you with sample language to share with your attorney as well as answer questions about your gift.
