It’s Official!  Phoenix World Burn Congress 2016 Opens!

The Phoenix Society's 28th annual Phoenix World Burn Congress has officially opened!

On Thursday morning, the attendees of Phoenix World Burn Congress 2016 received a heartfelt welcome from Lorraine Carli, board president of the Phoenix Society. "We are now at a pivotal point in our history where we are setting a course for a bold new future," Lorraine said. She discussed the Phoenix Society's vision of the future saying, "We see technology as a means to get people connected, when and where they need it...  we see advancing the quality of care for burn survivors...we see collaborating with partners to expand our impact... we see the power of WE."

"Our vision is ambitious," she continued, "We see the possibilities—and I hope you do, too. We see you joining us on this journey to a bold new future—building a community for transformational healing—together."

The opening ceremony included presentation of the Phoenix Society's 2016 Harman Award to Tom Cycyota of AlloSource.

“As our anchor Vision Partner, AlloSource has committed the largest gift in our history to be used over the next 5 years,” said Amy Acton, executive director, Phoenix Society.  “They are leading the way to assure there is greater access to the Phoenix Society’s community of support and services.”

The 2016 Joe Hickey Fire Service Award was presented to Dennis Gardin on behalf of the Georgia Firefighters Burn Foundation.

Phoenix Society also introduced its new "Edge Award", named in honor of Thomas Edge, a long-time Phoenix Society volunteer.  The award recognizes an individual who displays examples of "servant leadership". This award honors selfless leaders of our community who work hard in a volunteer capacity for the benefit of others. Servant leaders work under a philosophy and a set of practices that enrich lives, build better organizations, and ultimately create a more just and caring world.

The opening ceremony launches 4 days of life-changing empowerment and healing for over 800 conference attendees who will participate in workshops, open mic sessions, and support groups.
