Michael E. Williams Jr. is a lifelong resident of North Carolina, and serves as the Chief Deputy over the Fire and Rescue Service division in the NC Office of State Fire Marshal, as well as a Captain with the Northwest Harnett Volunteer Fire Department.  Mike was an investigator with the Harnett County Sheriff's Office for 12 years, Emergency Medical Technician, and has been in the Fire and Rescue field for over 25 years.  Mike was the Deputy Chief of Flat Branch Fire Department before moving to Fuquay-Varina to be closer to family.

Mike started his career in Emergency Services at the Coats Fire Department and then joined the NC Department of Insurance - Office of State Fire Marshal where he taught numerous firefighter courses and was responsible for conducting Line of Duty Deaths Benefits preparation.  During this time, he became aware of several deficiencies in the benefits system in NC and the United States. Mike worked with US Congressman Bob Etheridge- (D) to introduce and successfully be signed into law the Hometown Heroes Act. After the birth of their first daughter, he moved to the Narcotics division at the Harnett County Sheriff’s Department eventually working with the United States Drug Enforcement Agency until he was recruited to work with the new NC State Fire Marshal in April 2017. 

Mike and his wife, Kelly, live in Harnett County and have two daughters, Claire and Campbell.  Mike enjoys playing softball in his free time and enjoying the outside with the girls.
