A Call to Action

We have been working with several organizations on the issue of residential fire sprinklers in new construction of one and two family dwellings. Our efforts started at the International Code council hearing last year in Baltimore and continue today on a state by state basis.

We know that eight-in-ten civilian fire deaths occur in one and two family homes. We also know that more than 9,100 people are injured each year in fires in those homes. And we know that the presence of home fire sprinklers reduces the risk of death in those homes by 80 percent!

The Phoenix Society has partnered with the National Fire Protection Agency (NFPA) on a campaign called Faces of Fire. To protect against future injuries and deaths caused by fires at home, we want all new one and two family homes to have fire sprinklers. To help make this happen we want to collect and share personal stories of people and families who have been affected by fires at home - fires that might have been extinguished if fire sprinklers were in place. (While smoke alarms are now required, fire sprinklers are not required in most communities and very few homes have them). The Phoenix Society is looking to indentify volunteers who would be a good fit for this campaign.

Would you take the time to help us in our effort? Please call the Phoenix Society offices at your earliest convenience. Ask for Pam Peterson or Amy Acton. Mention the Faces of Fire campaign. We will have a few short questions for you to get started. Time is of the essence, please call. Our toll free number is 800-888-2876.
