Past Recipient Moves On To Medical School

Matthew Smetts was a PEG recipient in 2004. Matthew attended the University of Chicago where he received a Bachelor of Biological Sciences in 2006.

He is currently residing in Toledo, OH where he is attending the University of Toledo College of Medicine. He is a second year medical student. Matthew stays involved with the burn community by being a camp counselor at Great Lakes Burn Camp in Michigan; the same camp he went to! He also attended the World Burn Congress in 2001. Matthew says the PEG scholarship has "helped fund my education, which has been essential to fulfilling my goal of becoming a doctor. The support of the burn community has been an important influence in my life as a burn survivor".
