Behavioral & Enhancement Skills Training - Life Strategies to be Comfortable, Confident, and Competent in any Social, Work or School Situation
Facing the world after surviving a burn injury presents unique challenges. For survivors with physical differences and disabilities, community re-entry often evokes great anxiety and discomfort. We are often not prepared for the reactions of others to our new appearence. Survivors may experience prejudicial treatment and rejection based on their appearance and the image we project. Social interaction may be avoided if we can not overcome our fear of the reaction or possible rejection from others. If survivors are to thrive in the world, community integration plans must begin as early as possible in the recovery process. The BEST program and this area of the website explore the impact of returning to your social setting and give you practical tools to empower you and your family to make an optimal transition back to your community and assure a high quality of life.
