Advocacy

One of the key areas in the Phoenix Society's mission is Advocacy. Our aim is to advocate for public health policy that addresses issues that impact those affected by burn injury and death. Often those affected by the pain of a bury injury or death find meaning to their experiences by becoming advocates for change. Whether this involves burn and fire prevention or advocating for quality burn care, the survivor advocate is a powerful voice.

As a national organization, our efforts are focused on policy development and legislative measures that would have a permanent impact on decreasing burn injuries or improvement in the care of those with burn injuries. We disseminate information and educate our membership so they can become active in promoting change.

Fire Safe Cigarettes

The Fire Safe Cigarette issue is a national effort we are working on under our advocacy role. The Phoenix Society has been involved at a state and national level in promoting legislation on this issue. New York has now passed Fire Safe Cigarette legislation. A Fire Safe Cigarette Advocacy Kit, developed in partnership with the American Burn Association, provides tools on this topic for burn care professionals and survivors. Our efforts to mobilize our membership at a grassroots level on issues that can have a permanent impact on burn prevention and improvement in burn care our central to our mission.  http://www.firesafecigarettes.org
