Breslau Award

Alan and Delwyn Breslau accepting awardThe Alan & Delwyn Breslau Award is the highest distinction The Phoenix Society can bestow. This award honors a Phoenix Society member who has, through a collaborative spirit, significantly enhanced the ability of The Phoenix Society to fulfill its mission of peer support, education, and advocacy. By virtue of their character, integrity and the service they provide to those impacted by a burn injury this person has enhanced the burn community at large. The inaugural award was awarded at WBC 2002 to Alan & Delwyn Breslau.

Selection Process

The Phoenix Society Board of Trustees solicits nominations for the award from all Phoenix Society Members, former award recipients, and other members of the burn community. A committee made up of members of the Society’s board and past recipients reviews the materials submitted for each candidate and selects the person whose achievements and contributions most closely fit the criteria and who are deemed most deserving of recognition. The name of the person selected is then recommended to the Society’s board of trustees and the Society’s Executive Director for action.

The deliberations of the award committee and the board are kept confidential. The individual chosen to receive the Breslau Award will be honored during the World Burn Congress at the closing ceremony or at another appropriate time. Those employed by The Phoenix Society or who are voting members of the board of trustees are not eligible for this award.
